Consumers Union/Consumer Reports buys... →
This sounds great to me. I’m glad to see that the Consumerist will live on in good hands.
Who Is Winning the PR War? →
Basically, Israel is attacking the Gaza Strip and killing plenty of innocents but our good old mainstream media doesn’t challenge the justification for war. Journalists should be asking questions, not repeating talking points memos. This all seems much to familiar.

If you have any money in a savings account, you might want to consider moving it into a higher yielding cd. Then again, who has money these days?
Are Romantic Movies Bad For You? →
I guess a lot of people don’t know that hollywood love is not real and these movies are their basis for demanding unrealistic expectations in relationships. I’ve had a few girlfriends that thought things had to be the way they were in the movies… haven’t we all?

Apple Will Be Just Fine Without Steve Jobs →
Yet again, I agree with Om. Thanks for being the voice of reason on why Apple doesn’t need Steve Jobs to be successful. I don’t understand why so many people believe that one individual does everything from cleaning the bathrooms to making iPods at Apple.

CHENEY: I was aware of the program, certainly, and involved in helping get the process cleared, as the agency, in effect, came in and wanted to know what they could and couldn’t do. And they talked to me, as well as others, to explain what they wanted to do. And I supported it

Maybe, just maybe, the legislature will make TxDOT accountable to the people. We want real transportation solutions not just more toll roads.
RIAA Drops Lawsuit Strategy for “Three Strikes”... →
This is both good and bad. Good because the lawsuits were unsuccessful at curbing piracy. Bad because when the RIAA was suing people, they had little to no evidence of who actually was illegally sharing their content. Also bad because ISPs should not become copyright enforcers, although I doubt many will willingly do just that.

No more raising rates on existing balances. Any payment over the minimum must pay off part of the balance with the highest interest. You must be given 45 days notice of a change in the terms of service.

Hopefully this lesson will push cisco towards using BSD in their products instead of linux in the future. (I posted a video a while back that compares the GPL to the BSD license and explains all of this.)
