Why Cable ISP Capping is the New DRM, and Suck →
Tom’s Hardware gets it, metered broadband is a new form of DRM. Time Warner doesn’t want you to use your internet connection to watch your favorite shows online in HD when they can also sell you cable so you can watch that show on your TV. Metered broadband is also the first blow to congressionally mandated net neutrality. Instead of giving you faster access to partner sites, they can provide you with unmetered access to partner sites and not violate the law. Something tells me that Congress should revisit net neutrality and ensure that the law’s intent is not undermined by metered broadband.
